New York has a new attorney general.
Letitia James was sworn in just before midnight on Monday. She is now the first black woman to hold this statewide office.
The 60-year-old Democrat is set to participate in Tuesday's inauguration ceremony on Ellis Island.
James has been a prominent Democrat in New York City for years.
She says she'll host a series of informal meet-and-greets across the state.
Acting Attorney General Barbara Underwood did not run for reelection and is returning to her former position as the state's solicitor general.
