GATES, N.Y. (WHEC) — It's been 12 days since two young children were run over by a car while being pulled in a wagon by their father in a parking lot on Lyell Avenue in Gates.

The 2-year-old girl and 10-month-old boy are still in the hospital with severe injuries.

The young girl suffered a bruised liver, pancreas, adrenal glands and lungs and a fractured spine. She was teken off the ventilator but remains in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Meanwhile, the 10-month-old boy suffered a serious skull fracture and fractured ribs among other injuries. He was moved to a private room and is out of the PICU.

Hoffman Auto Mall is located less than three miles from where the accident occurred. David Hoffman and his son were heading home on July 11 when they came upon the scene just moments after it happened.

"We came across this tragic accident and want to do something to help them," Hoffman said. "I have seven children myself and it hit pretty close to home."

Although the Hoffmans have never met them, they decided to donate a portion of proceeds from every car sold at Hoffman Auto Mall from now until the end of the year.

Hoffman says the money will go directly to the family involved in the tragic incident, wanting to take even a fraction of the worry away for the family by helping financially.

The Gates Police Department also set up a fund for the family. Donations can be sent to Gates Chili Community Connections at 1605 Buffalo Rd. Rochester, NY 14624. Checks can be written to Gates Chili Community Connections.

Police say Letoya Palmo was taking a video when she went off the road and hit the children. She faces wo counts of felony assault and two counts of reckless endangerment. If convicted, she faces seven years in prison.
