Local fishermen being called heroes following water rescue

Two local fishermen are being called heroes by police after successfully executing a water rescue in the Irondequoit Bay Friday morning.

Officers were called to the east end of the Bay Bridge for a person in distress and found a man struggling in the water.

A Trooper tells News10NBC he saw a fisherman's boat with two people in it.

He and a Webster Police officer began to yell for the people in the boat, and began pointing.

The fishermen saw the man in the water and didn't hesitate to rescue him.

The man was taken to the hospital following the rescue.

Police say this was a dangerous rescue for police, calling the fishermen heroes.
