A local group is doing its part to help veterans who need help once they return home.
News10NBC caught up with Operation Build Up in Avon as they are taking the old and making it new again.
Justin Cogswell, the CEO of the non-profit spoke about their mission.
"We're getting ready to surprise some local veterans in need. Operation Build Up is a non profit organization and our mission is to surprise veterans with the necessary resources they need to survive in a civilian life. When veterans trip and fall in life and they lose transportation we feel that that starts a downward spiral, which puts them in a black hole."
Sam Croce, a veteran who is working at Operation Build Up told News10NBC, "I just kind of fell in love with the mission and I've been working here ever since."
Croce would continues to perfect his craft despite the inexperience.
"I can't tell you how many nights we've been here and me and Justin have looked up YouTube videos for hours on end trying to figure out how to solve a problem," Croce said. "Giving them that vehicles makes their life so much easier just by that simple tool."
The non-profit says many veterans will not ask for help when their personal situation is dire which is why this is so important.
"There's a lot of pride that goes into these vehicles and that moment of delivery when we surprise a veteran and you can instantly see in their face that their whole entire life just changed in an instant, that feeling you really can't get anywhere else in life," Cogswell said.
