ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Jews across the world will be observing Yom Kippur Tuesday evening, including in the Rochester area.
It will begin at sundown, which is 6:38 p.m. on Tuesday, and lasts until sundown on Wednesday.
The day is often spent fasting and praying.
Governor Andrew Cuomo directed the New York State Police to increase security presence near synagogues and religious centers during Yom Kippur and the other Jewish high holidays.
