Local vet offers free yoga classes for dogs

April 02, 2018 07:12 AM

Doga is a new trend promoting a healthy lifestyle for you and your dog. Classes are happening right here in our area. The benefits are endless for both dogs and their owners.

Just like yoga for humans, doga helps improve your dog's posture and increases their chances for a good night's sleep. It also gives owners a chance to spend quality time with their pets while giving your pooch the chance to socialize with other dogs too. You will do poses with your pet in the class.

Dr. Danni Shemanski, a veterinarian at Hilton Vet Hospital, teaches the classes at Hilton Vet Hospital. Dr. Shemanski says often forget how much time our dogs spend alone which can contribute to stress and anxiety.

"This is one creative way to spend time with your dog and make them happy and make them feel important," Dr. Shemanski says. "So many behavioral issues come from attention seeking behaviors so this is a great way that both the owner and the dog can benefit."

The classes are free, but Dr. Shemanksi hopes you'll consider donating to a local animal shelter instead.

The next class is happening Friday, April 13 at 5:30 p.m. at Hilton Vet Hospital, 251 East Ave., Hilton. Call 392-2937 to reserve your spot!
