Local veteran and Olympic coach dies at 85

A well-known local woman and a member of the State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame has died.

State Senator Rich Funke announced the death of Doctor Betty Perkins Carpenter.

The air force veteran coached the swimming and diving teams for the University of Rochester and the men's and women's diving teams at the 1976 Olympics.

She went on to become a published author as well as remain active in several veterans' organizations.

You may recall that Carpenter owned the infamous "ice house" on Lake Ontario that was featured on the national news.  

Carpenter was 85 years old.
