Longtime community leader Paul Haney dies

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) -- A longtime Rochester community leader has died. 

Paul Haney was elected to the Monroe County Legislator in 2005 where he represented the 23rd Legislative District in southeast Rochester and northeast Brighton.

Haney also served as a member of the Rochester City Council from 1974-1985. He also worked as the director of finance for Monroe County from 1988-1992 and was a school board member at Aquinas.

Rep. Joe Morelle said Haney "exemplified what it means to be a public servant. "

Mayor Warren left the following statement in regards to Haney's passing:

"Paul Haney was dedicated to serving others. Whether in elected office or volunteering his time, he gave of his time and effort to make our community a better place. I ask our city to join me in extending our prayers and condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time."
