ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)- Family and friends released colorful balloons in memory of eight-year-old Jamielath Kabba.
Kabba died in March after she drowned in the pool at the Residence Inn Marriott in Henrietta.
Rama Kante, Kabba's cousin, planned a small gathering in honor of Kabba.
"We really just have family and friends here trying to celebrate her life," Kante said.
"Just trying to think of her, this is where she grew up, this is all she knows, this park."
Kante says Kabba loved to play at Troup Street Park with her siblings and cousins. Fatumata Tarawalu, Kabba's sister says she was a unique girl.
"She was free-willed, she was very loving she was very outgoing she just loved everybody," Tarawalu said. "When she walked in a room she brightened the room up."
Loved ones planned for the vigil to be a happy place, but tears fell from almost every eye as people shared stories about the young girl.
Kabba's mother, Isatu Tarawalu struggled to speak about her late daughter.
"She was a nice little girl she used to love her mom love everybody," Tarawalu said. "I just want to ask everyone to pray for me to be strong...this is hard."
Even though she's gone, her loved ones say they've gained an angel.
"She was really into faith and everything that's one thing I remember," Kante said. "So I know she's in paradise right now living her best life."
Kabba was buried in Rochester this week. Her family says they want to thank the community for their support in this difficult time.
