Lyons man accused of assaulting pregnant woman; threatening other family members

A Lyons man was arrested on Thursday after authorities say he assaulted a pregnant woman and then threatened other family members.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, 25-year-old Jacob F. Covert punched a pregnant woman in the throat, causing her to fall to the ground. He then displayed a knife and threatened two other family members, one of whom received a cut in their forearm. Covert then fled the scene, but was found by State Police and Sheriff's Deputies driving southbound on Maple Street Road in Lyons. After a brief low-speed chase, he was apprehended on Layton Street Road.

Covert faces charges of Assault, Menacing, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and Harassment. He has been sent to Wayne County Jail in lieu of cash or bond, and an order of protection was issued to the victims.
