Man dead, another hurt after ATV crash in Genesee County

OAKFIELD, N.Y. (WHEC) — A man is dead, and another person is recovering in the hospital after an ATV crash in Genesee County.

New York State Police responded around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday to Lockport Road in the town of Oakfield for an ATV crash. 

Police say two people in a 2014 Can-Am Outlander were traveling north on Bliss Road and crossed Lockport Road. The ATV exited the intersection and struck a rock embankment, causing the ATV to overturn several times.

The operator, Thomas S. Butler, 43, of Oakfield, was ejected and died at the scene.

The 55-year-old passenger was also ejected and taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center for treatment. The 55-year-old is expected to survive. 

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
