Person in custody after fatal vehicle/pedestrian crash on Lyell Avenue

A man is dead and another person is injured after a car struck two pedestrians and a utility pole early Saturday morning on Lyell Avenue.

According to the Rochester Police Department, officers responded to reports of a pedestrian-involved motor vehicle accident around 2:49 a.m. at 475 Lyell Avenue. There, they found the vehicle and two pedestrians. One pedestrian, an adult male, was declared dead at the scene. Another victim was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital and his injuries are being reported as non-life-threatening.

Police later added that they have a man in custody in connection with the incident, and that the pedestrians hit were not in the roadway at the time of the crash. 

Police say the investigation is still ongoing and that further details be released at a later time. The identity of the deceased is being withheld until family is notified. Lyell Avenue was  closed throughout the morning for the investigation.
