GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) -- The man taken into custody Wednesday after Greece Police found a pipe bomb in his home was charged in federal court.

Court documents say 26-year-old Daniel Owens is accused of having ammunition while being a convicted felon and having an unregistered destructive device.

The documents also state that Owens admitted to police that he constructed the bomb because he was getting threats from someone he knew and he could not own a firearm.

His family overheard that it was over a drug deal that went bad.

Officers found the pipe bomb in Owens' home on Estall Road early Wednesday morning after they were tipped off that there may be some kind of bomb inside the home.

Police tell News10NBC they do not believe this is related to the arrests of four men accused of making IEDs and plotting to attack the Muslim community of Islamberg in Delaware County.
