A Rochester man who attempted to enter the Monroe County Hall of Justice with a loaded handgun pleaded guilty to charges last week.

Deputies say 35-year-old Robert Salters was entering the Hall of Justice on Jan. 19 for a scheduled court appearance. A deputy observed the .25 caliber handgun on the x-ray machine as Salters went through screening. He was immediately handcuffed and taken to a secure area by court deputies.

Deputies say six rounds of ammunition were found in the magazine that was in the pocket of Salters' coat, wrapped in a plastic bag.

On Friday, Salters pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

He was sentenced to six years in prison and three-and-a-half years post-release supervision.
