Marine, Horseheads native shot and killed near San Diego

A 21-year-old Marine shot and killed near San Diego, California has ties to the Southern Tier.

Sgt. Christopher Truax Jr. is from Horseheads, near Elmira. He was an active duty Marine with the Marine Wing Support Squadron-373 based out of MCAS Miramar.

Truax was shot while in a car parked in the middle of the street just after midnight Friday. An unidentified woman was with him. 

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department says the woman, who was in the driver's seat, is not considered a suspect. 

His death has been ruled a homicide.

Investigators say there are no suspects in the case.

Truax was married and has a one-year-old son.
