According to the U.S. freestyle skiing site, Lillis was on a break between pre-season training camps. His brothers, Jon and Chris, are both potential medalists and considered “Athletes to Watch” in the upcoming 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea by the Team USA site in freestyle skiing events. All three Lillis brothers began training and consider their home base to be Bristol Mountain.

Lillis was known to his friends and teammates as Mikey.

"We are a family and as a family our entire team grieves for Mikey, his own family and his teammates," said U.S. Ski & Snowboard President and CEO Tiger Shaw. "We'll remember him for the pathway he was following and the goals he was beginning to achieve. Our condolences go out to his parents Bernie and Jamie and the entire Lillis family."

Lillis showed promise as a future star on the NorAm tour. He medaled three times in recent seasons.

There is no word on services for Lillis at this time.
