ELBRIDGE, N.Y. (NBC/WHEC) — A search for a missing Minnesota 2-year-old came to a happy ending in New York Tuesday.

Nasteha Mohamed of Minneapolis was found safe and strapped into a car seat after a traffic stop by New York State Police.

A national “Be On the Lookout” (BOLO) alert on the vehicle had just gone out and it was quickly spotted speeding on I-90 near Brutus, Cayuga County.

Once stopped, the suspect, 27-year-old Amina Mohamed, who NYSP says is the 2-year-old’s sister, was taken into custody.

Minneapolis Police are working with child services to get Nasteha back to her parents and the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office, McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Center, and Onondaga Child Protective Services are caring for her until she can be returned to her mother.
