Monroe County is reaching out to save neighborhoods from blighted abandoned homes, and save troubled homes from ending up blighted and abandoned.
Saturday the county's Vacant and Abandoned Property Task Force held its home fair in Gates.
The event brought together homeowners who might be running into trouble with their mortgages, their taxes or other money issues and provided them with programs that can help them.
"We've been able to put them in touch with organizations and nonprofits here who can help them be able to stay in their home and maintain their home," said Adam Bello, the Task Force's chairman. "Really what our task force about is preventing vacant and abandoned properties. From popping up around the county and dealing with them once they are."
The fair brought together organizations to help homeowners or prospective homeowners with repairs, foreclosure prevention and relations between landlords and tenants.
It also offered confidential counseling with experts certified by the federal government to offer guidance.
