More than $56K lost in 'grandparents scam'

New York State Police say senior citizens have recently lost more than $56,000 because of what's call a 'grandparents scam.'

A 'grandparents scam' is when someone calls an elderly person posing as a grandchild asking for money for an emergency.

Troopers say elderly New Yorkers in Verona and Oneida were told their grandchildren were arrested and needed money. 

In each case, the scammers were immediately sent money.
