It's the community's single largest volunteer effort, helping nearly 200 local nonprofit organizations and the people that they serve.

News10NBC went over to Foodlink on Mount Read Boulevard Thursday where folks were sorting and packaging food for distribution.

Other Day of Caring projects included reading to children or cleaning our parks.

"This is the largest community effort and it really brings this community together and it brings out the real spirit of giving. That's so important in our community and it makes this community tick," said Andy Gallina, president at Gallina Development and United Way of Greater Rochester campaign chair.

For those who were unable to participate in Thursday's Day of Caring, there are other chances to get involved.
