Congressman Morelle calls for compromise ahead of shutdown deadline

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) - Rochester's Congressman says he's hopeful for a deal to head off another government shutdown as the days tick down to the latest deadline.

Congress' latest deal to pay the government's bills runs out this Friday.

President Trump is still demanding funding for improved border security and house and senate negotiators are struggling to find common ground on issues like immigration officials catching people in the U.S. Illegally.

Democrats now want to limit how many beds U.S. immigration can have for those it does catch.

Monroe County Democrat Joe Morelle, who dealt with a divided legislature when he was in Albany, says there is room for compromise.

Sources say negotiations hit a snag on Saturday with disagreements over the question of detention beds and over immigration arrests within the country of foreigners in the U.S. illegally.
