Joe Morelle wins Democratic primary in 25th District Congressional race

State Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle won the Democratic Party’s Primary in the 25th District Congressional race.

Morelle captured 45% of the vote to win the primary. Former television journalist Rachel Barnhart earned 20% of the vote, followed by 18% for Rochester City Council Vice President Adam McFadden, and 17% for Brighton Town Board member Robin Wilt.

Morelle will face Republican Dr. Jim Maxwell in the election to fill late Rep. Louise Slaughter's seat in November.

The 25th Congressional District covers most of Monroe County.

Barnhart, who previously ran unsuccessfully for State Assembly and Rochester Mayor, said that she has had enough with politics.
