The R.I.T. student accused of killing her mother was arraigned on murder charges in Corning on Friday.

Investigators say Michele was strangled in her apartment in Corning.

Kerrie Neurauter was arrested Wednesday at her Syracuse apartment. She is a fourth-year computing engineering technology major at R.I.T.

Police and prosecutors have not released a motive has been given for the crime.

News10NBC spoke with defense attorney Matthew Parinello about this case. Parinello represented one of the children charged in another high profile murder in our area, Colin Rideout.

Rideout was convicted of murder in the murder of his father, Craig Rideout. Two other family members were also convicted.

Parinello said it can be tough handling a case where family dynamics come into play.

"Most of the time it's difficult to have kind of an in--depth conversation with your client that you need to have in preparation of a trial because there is that family dynamic," Parinello said. "So there's always some protection going on between family members."

Kerrie Neurauter, meanwhile, remains held in the Steuben County Jail.
