The National Weather Service just announced recently that seven offices, including our local Buffalo office, will be adding a "snow squall warning."
This type of warning has been in a testing phase for the past year but now it looks like the National Weather Service would like to roll it out this winter starting in January. You can find the details about this at this press release from the NWS here.
Now unlike previous winter weather warnings that would indicate the winter storm warnings by county, this new one will be much more local. In fact it will be polygon based kind of like Tornado and Severe Thunderstorm warnings are now.
The warning message will contain the same information though in regards to exactly where and when you will be impacted by heavy snow. The big change is the microscale of the warning; it should be more accurate to help keep you safe during the winter.
Do also note if you use the News10NBC app, you will continue to get your warnings the way you get them now.
