Several local teachers earn 'gold standard' national certification

(WHEC) — Several teachers from the Rochester area were among the 97 awarded “gold standard” national certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

The performance-based, peer-reviewed assessment process of obtaining the designation includes a review of teaching portfolios, student work samples and videos and analysis of candidates’ teaching ability and student learning.

The following local teachers obtained the designation for 2019:

  • Catherine Becker, who teaches Reading and Language Arts at Fairport Central School District
  • Ryan DeWolfe, who teaches English and Language Arts at Geneva City School District
  • Jayme Futter, an early childhood generalist at Fairport Central School District
  • Kathleen Goodberlet, who teaches Reading and Language Arts at Victor Central School District
  • Christina Grieco, who teaches English as a New Language at West Irondequoit Central School District
  • Jaime Hochheimer, a middle childhood generalist at Livonia Central School District
  • Rebecca Horowitz, who teaches English and Language Arts at Brighton Central School District
  • Wendy Kierst, who teaches English and Language Arts at Marcus Whitman Central School Distrct
  • Denise Paley, who teaches Career and Technical Education at Marion Central School District
  • Julia Robinson, an Exceptional Needs Specialist at Lyndonville Central School District
  • Dustin Smith, who teaches Mathematics at Fairport Central School District
