ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) -- Dan Lowengard has been at the helm of the Rochester City School District during one of the most tumultuous times in recent history.
Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren is calling for a five-year state takeover. The Rochester school board is at odds and graduation rates are below 60 percent.
Lowengard has served as superintendent in Rochester, Syracuse and Utica, so he has experience working in urban districts with high poverty and struggling graduation rates.
On Tuesday, Lowengard sat down with News10NBC Investigative Reporter Jennifer Lewke to discuss whether Rochester's challenges are truly unique and what needs to be done to make progress.
