GATES, N.Y. (WHEC) — Step by step... running is a calling for Jacob-Kurtis Guy.
"Ever since I started at the age of four I've wanted to get better," Jacob-Kurtis said, "I just find the fun in it every time i go out, it's something I enjoy, the weather doesn't bother me too much."
It's a good thing he can look past the weather, because the Northstar senior runs in all types of seasons... and at a high level. A top-three finisher at Sectionals four times and a winner of 12 league championship races, Jacob-Kurtis is one of the most accomplished distance runners in Section V, but he also moves to the beat of his own drum... quite literally. Jacob-Kurtis is the captain of the school's drum line.
Next year he'll run in college, and when he's not competing in cross country as well as indoor and outdoor track at the college level the National Honor Society member will study chemistry. And he's used to hitting the books, he's currently in line to graduate as the salutatorian of his class.
"It's not about the recognition, it's more about the accomplishment that I'll be satisfied and I've earned this by myself," Jacob-Kurtis said.
Classic response from a career runner and congratulations Jacob-Kurtis Guy, the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week!
