BROCKPORT, N.Y. (WHEC) — Determined, thoughtful, and well-rounded: those are the qualities that define some of the best leaders in sports as well as our community. They are also traits held by this week's Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
"Some people aren't really about the grind, but [for] me not giving up and trying to get better sets me apart," says Brockport senior Jonathan Ellison.
Being “about the grind” is a daily part of life for Jonathan, especially when it comes to football.
"It means everything, it really gives me the motivation to wake up in the morning, work hard, be something to myself and my teammates,” says Jonathan. “[It] make my parents proud, it's just the world."
Jonathan is the captain of the Brockport football team, a team that earned its first win of the season on homecoming.
“It was wonderful, to play like how we did with the crowd behind us with the band on the right side of the bleachers, it was amazing, that was what we work for,” says Jonathan.
Jonathan is more than just sports, though. The honor roll student also plays trombone in the marching band and says that while football comes naturally, trombone is more of a challenge.
"With sheet music it takes time to adjust with key signatures, time signatures," he says.
Sounds like another activity mastered through hard work.
Congratulations Jonathan Ellison, the News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week!
