GREECE, N.Y. (WHEC) — Starting Tuesday night and continuing through the rest of the week the best girls swimmers in the Rochester area will compete in sectionals. Our Scholar-Athlete this week hopes to lead her team to their best result at the meet.
"The hardest part isn't even the physical part, it's the mental part as well," Greece Athena senior Liz Mellors said.
She's laying it all on the line in her senior year, Liz wants her team locked in right before sectionals.
"You have to be ready to swim, you can't zone out the whole practice,” Liz added, “you have to think about stroke or technique constantly, that's the hardest part."
Her run through sectionals will likely be the last time Liz swims competitively. She's already qualified for two events at sectionals and next year she wants to study counseling psychology in college.
"It's one of the only fields that I could find that you could talk to people whole helping them at the same time," Liz said.
A sentiment that the honor roll student developed after receiving a citizenship award earlier in high school. Congratulations Liz Mellors, the News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week!
