No middle seats on Southwest

In consumer news, are you thinking about booking a flight on Southwest for Thanksgiving? You need to book early because there will be fewer seats available per flight. The airline is leaving the middle seats empty through Nov. 30. You can only use a middle seat to sit together as a family. And like the other airlines, everyone is required to wear a mask, you'll have to confirm you have no symptoms and to maintain social distancing, the airline will board only 10 passengers at a time.

Consumers spending less

We all spent less in August, and that worries economists. The commerce department came out with the bad news Wednesday. Core retail sales fell .1% last month. As you read this you may be thinking, that's not that bad. But it's all about expectations. Economists predicted core retail sales would rise .5%. So analysts fear that our COVID-sickened economy may be recovering more slowly than we thought.
Got a coupon? It’s a date!

So it's no surprise that a new survey shows that being thrifty is attractive. Singles aren't looking for a date with a sports car, they're looking for that cat with a coupon. According to a survey done by Honey, an online bargain search site, more than half of respondents said they find thriftiness attractive because they're looking for stability, and 79% say finding a good deal is more important now than before the pandemic.

The study also finds that more than one-third of respondents spend hours looking for coupons. I spent hours scouring the blogs of frugal bloggers. Here are 10 of the online coupon sites listed most often:

  1. Rakuten
  3. Amazon Coupons
  4. Swagbucks
  5. Wikibuy
  6. RetailMeNot
  7. Slickdeals
  9. Dealnews
  10. Hip2Save
