The alleged Albany-area cult, NXIVM, is suspending operations until further notice due to the incarceration of its leader.

Keith Raniere also learned Tuesday he will not be released on bail as his defense had asked.

Prosecutors say they have text messages that prove Raniere was involved in recruiting women as sex slaves and branding them with his initials.

In court Tuesday, NXIVM members were joined by alleged victims and Raniere's ex-girlfriend from Rochester.

"The reason that I came today is to make sure the judge saw that there were people here and yes there is a fear because there's a lot of wealth and there's a lot of power," stated Toni Natalie, Raniere's ex-girlfriend.

However, Raniere's Attorney Mark Agnifilo makes it clear that Raniere isn't going down without a fight.

"He's eager actually to fight this case and prove his innocence, so that last thing he's going to try and do is run away."

Raniere's co-defendant and Smallville actress Allison Mack also appeared in court Tuesday.

She's accused of helping him recruit sex slaves.
