ALBANY, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York State's brand new Cannabis Control Board held its first public meeting Tuesday.

The five-member team, which was appointed last month, will oversee licensing of cannabis businesses and the approval of different actions taken by the Office of Cannabis Management.

At the meeting, the Cannabis Control Board went over some tasks it needs to complete before legal recreational marijuana sales can begin in New York State, including expanding the types of care providers who can prescribe marijuana to include dentists, podiatrists and midwives.

The Cannabis Control Board also upped the amount that providers can prescribe to a 60-day supply.

New York's had legal adult-use marijuana laws for months now. Some estimates say legalized marijuana could mean $3.5 Billion and 60,000 jobs in New York.

The meeting was held virtually at 1:30 p.m. For a look at what was on the official agenda, click here.
