NEW YORK (WHEC) — A new state law guaranteeing paid sick leave for workers went into effect Wednesday.
It requires all private employers in the state to provide their workers with up to 40 or 56 hours of sick leave annually, depending on the size of the employer.
The new law was part of the state budget approved back in April.
While the sick leave begins accruing Wednesday, workers can't start using it until the start of the new year.
