QUEENS, N.Y. (WHEC)— A New York City Police officer died after a hit and run in Queens Tuesday morning.
Police told our New York affiliate the crash happened around 2 a.m. The officer, identified as Anastasio Tsakos,43, was already at the scene responding to another call when a sedan hit him on the Long Island Expressway. Police say the 14 year veteran of the force was directing traffic at the time.
He later died at the hospital.
Police say the woman, 32-year-old Jessica Beauvais, now faces several charges including vehicular manslaughter, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of a deadly accident, and DWI, among other offenses.
Officers say Beauvais had a suspended license, though it was not made clear why.
