(WHEC) -- This coming weekend is a unique one for the state of New York.
One of our popular local products this time of year is maple syrup and the upcoming weekend is the state's Maple Weekend.
It is meant as a way to get people to find out how Maple Syrup is made, to try it out for themselves and also support local farms.
Most locations will even have tours on how the syrup is made and what goes into getting it from the tree to sitting on top of your pancakes!
And this event has been getting bigger every year.
"New York is the model for Maple Weekend. We started 24 years ago. I think there were ten farms that participated and now there are 182 farms," said a spokesperson for the New York States Maple Syrup Association.
The weather has been good this year for syrup production as well.
This is thanks to cold mornings and relatively warmer afternoons which have encouraged the flow of sap the last few weeks. And since we are at the peak of the season right now, it is a good time to get out and check out some of these farms!
The forecast does have rain on Saturday and snow Sunday morning but by Sunday afternoon things should clear up nicely.
