ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Local Republican leaders are calling for more answers on the state's handling of COVID-19 cases in nursing homes during the pandemic.
Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay and Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt held a virtual roundtable discussion on Monday, saying last week's formal hearing with State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker did not answer many of their questions.
The state has reported about 6,500 people have died from COVID-19 in nursing homes, though some state lawmakers believe the actual number is much higher.
They are still looking for clarification on the actual number.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo had his second public hearing on the impact of his COVID-19 policies in these facilities last week.
