NEW YORK (WHEC) -- Governor Cuomo is working to win back Amazon after the company abruptly abandoned plans for a big new headquarters in New York City.

According to The New York Times, Cuomo spoke with the company's founder, Jeff Bezos, multiple times over the past two weeks.

Besides personally pitching to the founder, the governor also made multiple phone calls with other Amazon executives.

A group of New York City leaders also sent an open letter to the online retailer, begging them to reconsider.

So far, there is no indication that the company is reconsidering the deal which was set to bring 25,000 jobs to the city.

The stunning reversal was a serious blow to Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio, who had lobbied intensely to land the project.

The Seattle company had planned to spend $2.5 billion building its new offices.
