ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) -- Over a dozen local police officers and sheriff's deputies were honored for their bravery with a nationwide Top Cops award for how they contained a deadly shooter last fall.

Back in October, 13 RPD officers and a Monroe County Sheriff's deputy responded to the area of North Goodman and Frances Street.

That's were they say Terrell Blake shot and killed his ex-girlfriend then shot and injured her new boyfriend and his own son before returning to the scene.

Blake died after a shootout with police.

"I can't say it's emotional at the time because you're basically going on your adrenaline and the things you kind of learned in the past and it kind of goes into an autopilot but very stressful in that sense because we knew exactly what his plan was and exactly what he was trying to do," said Officer Jonathan Marsh, RPD.
