WATERLOO, N.Y. (WHEC) — Del Lago Resort & Casino will start accepting bets on sports Friday afternoon.

Sports betting is expected to bring in a new line of cash and jobs to a casino that has faced its own financial struggles.

“We are thrilled to officially open our new DraftKings Sportsbook at del Lago and look forward to welcoming guests to our state-of-the-art lounge,” said Lance Young, executive vice president and general manager. “Our sportsbook is an extraordinary experience - adding yet another topnotch amenity for our guests to enjoy. The addition of our sportsbook lounge reinforces that del Lago Resort & Casino is a highly sought-after destination in the region.”

Casinos around the New York began taking sports bets after the state's Gaming Commission approved regulations earlier this year. New York is the ninth state to permit and regulate sports betting.

The first official legal sports bet in New York was at Rivers Casino in Albany last month. In New York, sports betting is still only allowed in person at four upstate casinos as well as the Native American casinos.

Mobile sports betting has been a big debate across the state. Lawmakers plan to address that again during the next session in 2020.
