It is a project that hopes to bring greater health care transparency to Rochester: the OpenNotes system.

A collaboration between University of Rochester Medicine and Rochester Regional Health, Rochester will be the first region in New York State with community-wide implementation of the system. It'll allow health care providers to offer patients digital access to doctor's visit notes.

"Patients we know are all anxious to see the doctor," says Michael Rotondo, the UR Medical Faculty Group CEO, "It's hard to really assimilate all the information, to understand it, to absorb it. This will be another fail-safe for them so that they have a better chance of really being able to go back, check the information and gain understanding."

OpenNotes is a national movement to give patients greater control of their own health care with greater access to information.
