MARION, N.Y. (WHEC) -- A Marion family is in mourning after losing a 80-year-old loved one in a house fire.

Family confirms with News10NBC that Beatrice Murray died in her Wayne County home when the fire broke out Monday.

It happened just before 2 p.m. on Cory Corners Road in Marion.

The victim's grandson was the second occupant of the home and says he was out for lunch celebrating his birthday when he got a call about the fire.

He says he rushed home and tried to gain entry to the house to save his grandmother but the flames were too out of control.

According to family, the property was built in the 1800s, which the 80-year-old called home for about 50 years.

Murray is a mom of six and grandmother to many.

Her grandson says, above all, she was a loving person who did anything for family.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
