NEW YORK (WHEC) — Over 40,000 people are without power in the New York City area according to Con Edison.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has sent personnel to the city to assist with the outage, including 200 state troopers. Cuomo is also sending 100 generators and 50 light towers.

The State Department of Public Service (DPS) will also be expanding its investigation into Con Edison power outages. Cuomo directed DPS to investigate last weekend's power outages on the west side of Manhattan.

Earlier on Sunday Con Edison reported that its Brooklyn Queens Control Center would be taking actions to relieve overloaded portions of the electric system, resulting in power outages to roughly 35,000 customers.

According to Con Edison's outage map, the estimated restoration time would be 11 a.m. Monday morning.
