PERINTON, N.Y. (WHEC)- Some residents in Perinton are being asked to boil their water Thursday after a water main break on Chipping Ridge.

According to a statement from the Monroe County Water Authority, the water main break increased the chances that harmful microbes could enter the water supply.

The advisory applies to residents on Mosley Road, including side streets from Neuchatel Lane to Boxwood Lane.

The advisory also applies to residents on Garnsey Road including side streets from Sullys Trail to Emerald Hill Circle.

Crews are working to make repairs but it is likely that the advisory will be in place for the next 24 to 36 hours.

The Monroe County Water Authority provided the following instructions for boiling water:

"Bring tap water to a rolling boil and boil for two minutes. Allow water to cool before using it. Or use bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice."
