Voters in Penfield pleaded for transparency Wednesday night during the Penfield Town Board Meeting.

Some are upset with the way the town is handling the purchase of Shadow Pines Golf Course.
Town leaders said that the earliest Penfield can get a financing plan to close on the property is February 6. The date would not include a public vote.

Golf course seller Dolomite wanted to sell the property by the end of January, and has not agreed to a sale extension.

Penfield town leaders said a vote would push them back to March, and Dolomite will likely find another buyer.

"If on March 30th, when they first sent the letter of intent, if they would have allowed a financing contingency, so we could do a public referendum, it is my opinion that we would not be here today," said Penfield Town Board Member Andy Moore.

"I was neutral to even positive on this," said Jim Mathers of Penfield. ""But the way you've gone about this, I gotta stand against it."

Some residents said Thursday that if the council was transparent throughout the process, people would understand why there can't be a vote.
