A Penn Yan man is facing animal cruelty charges after he allegedly left his dog inside a hot car.

The Ontario County Humane Society says it responded to Clifton Springs Hospital Monday morning after a hospital employee reported that a dog had been left in a car in the parking lot.

Officers say Mr. Rinkles, a 2-year-old Shar-pei mix, had been removed from the car and was given water and placed in the shade by the employee by the time they arrived.

The temperature inside the car was found to be over 120 degrees Fahrenheit, according to officers.

The dog's owner, 77-year-old Robert McKay, returned to the car about an hour later.

He will appear in the Village of Clifton Springs court at a later date.

Mr. Rinkles was taken to the Ontario County Humane Society.
