People can fish for free in NY on Saturday, Sept. 25

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — If you’re looking for a fun activity while the weather is still warm, you can try fishing for free!

People in New York can fish without a license next Saturday, Sept. 25.

The goal is not only to promote the sport but to encourage those who are interested to buy a license.

New York provides anglers with six "Free Fishing Days" each year. The sixth, and final, Free Fishing Day in 2021 is on Veterans Day, Nov 11.

Anglers 16 years of age and older must have a current New York State fishing license to fish unless it’s Free Fishing Day. Fishing licenses are valid for 365 days from the date of purchase.
