The Town of Perinton is looking to make quick work of a sometimes unbearable smell coming from High Acres Landfill.

On Wednesday night, the Perinton Conservation Board spoke to the town about ways they can solve the smell.

Ten recommendations were presented.

One is asking Waste Management to perform weekly gas management, instead of doing it monthly. Another proposal asks them to stop disposal until the odor is eliminated. One other plan asks Waste Management to meet new, vastly different, Department of Environmental Conservation landfill requirements that are different from the requirements on their current permit.

"The current regulations are monitoring things on a quarterly basis," said Kenneth Rainis of the Perinton Conservation Board. "And when Waste Management tells you that they're meeting those standards, they're right! But those standards, in our opinion aren't stringent enough."

The town supervisor plans to adopt these recommendations. The next step will be meeting with the DEC to implement them.
