Rochester Police are investigating after a man was hit by a garbage truck in the city Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators say a City of Rochester garbage truck was making a left turn onto Chestnut Street from East Avenue just after 1 p.m. when the driver hit a pedestrian crossing Chestnut Street.

A News10NBC crew on the scene saw police and firefighters pulling the man from underneath the truck.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by ambulance. News10NBC is working to find out his condition.

The city issued the following statement Wednesday regarding the accident:

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim of today's accident. Mayor Warren and the City of Rochester are working closely with the Rochester Police Department to fully investigate the circumstances of the accident."

The investigation is ongoing.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
