ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester's Pillars of Hope program kicked off for the season on Wednesday.
It's a program for fifth-and-sixth grade students in the Rochester City School District where local "roll-models" are invited to show kids a broader world of possibilities beyond famous athletes and singers they may idolize.
Pillars of Hope welcomes professionals from throughout the community to become mentors.
"Our program is designed so that these mentors are complete strangers, people that they wouldn't normally come across," says Kiara Warren. "Specifically, all professionals across all walks of life that are showing them, 'hey we did this and you can do it too.'"
