PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WHEC)- The Pittsford Mendon girls basketball team has brought a state title to the Rochester area.
The Vikings defeated Seton Catholic in Sunday's Class A state title game 59-50 thanks to a 14-0 third quarter that helped seal the deal. The Vikings' Alana Fursman was named MVP of the tournament after scoring 24 points in the finale.
The girls were welcomed back to Pittsford with a special fire truck escort. It is the first time in school history that the girls basketball team has won a state championship.
"It's just so emotional for everyone here, you know?" said Todd Julien, the team's head coach.
"This thing has been building for a coupe of years and these kids... they put the time in. They really deserve this thing and I've never seen a happier bus ride in my life. It's been nonstop since we've pulled out. Just great stuff."
Congratulations to the Vikings!
